Our Story
Atar Fire was founded in 2023 by Nick Bartlett to provide fire protection engineering and code consulting services. Our goal is to assist AHJs, developers, contractors, and manufacturers, navigate life safety codes and standards so that projects can be executed safely and smoothly.

Nick has nearly two decades of experience in the fire protection engineering field. Nick is a technical expert in the field and is a member of several UL, NFPA, and ICC technical committees. Nick leverages a unique background to offer clients a breadth of services. This includes:

Testing and certification of fire protection products as an engineer with Underwriters Laboratories in Northbrook Illinois, including diesel fire pump drivers, fire sprinkler components (flex hoses, hangers, fittings, etc), fire fighting foam, and more.

Fire protection engineering consulting with Hughes Associates in the Bay Area, California, including performing advanced fire modeling using Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), smoke control system design and commissioning, and Fire Hazard Analysis.

Extensive experience as an AHJ working for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. Work includes fire protection program policy development, wildland fire planning and mitigation, fire hazard analysis, AHJ/owner representation for design, review, construction inspection, and commissioning of multiple new laboratories, and extensive experience with hazards materials code enforcement. Experience with DOE requirements, Califorrnia Fire/Building Codes, and nearly every NFPA code and standard.

Nick is currently the Fire Marshal at an institution that maintains a focus on development of various renewable energy technologies. As such, Nick has extensive experience with energy storage systems, hydrogen, photovoltaic, semiconductor, wind, and others.

Nick has a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. He obtained his Masters of Science in Fire Safety Engineering through the International Masters in Fire Safety Engineering program, including on-campus studies at the University of Ediburgh (Scotland), University of Lund (Sweden), and Ghent University (Belgium). Having studied in Europe, and worked as a consultant, test engineer, and AHJ, Nick maintains an open mind about how fire safety may be approached in various situations.

We offer a full day specialized NFPA 855 training to help individuals and organizations understand the ins and outs of implementing this relatively new standard for energy storage systems
